Home Research CV # I am postdoctoral researcher at the [Research Center for Distributional Conflict and Globalization](http://www.uni-heidelberg.de/fakultaeten/wiso/exzellenzinitiative/index_en.html) at *Heidelberg University*, and associate fellow at the [*German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE)*](http://www.die-gdi.de/en/). Before moving to Heidelberg, I obtained my PhD with a thesis titled "A nudge too far? The effects of democracy aid on democratization and political instability" in 2014 from the [Department of Government](http://www.essex.ac.uk/government/) at the *University of Essex*, supervised by [Kristian Skrede Gleditsch](http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~ksg/) and [Jörg Faust](http://www.deval.org/en/prof-dr-joerg-faust.html). In a nutshell, my research deals with various aspects of political regimes and states: how they differ, how they react to international factors (particularly foreign aid), and how they affect development and and political instability. My articles have appeared in *Third World Quarterly*, the *Journal of International Relations and Development* and *Zeitschrift für Vergleichende Politikwissenschaft*. Together with Javier Fabra Mata, I co-authored the *Users' guide on measuring fragility*, published by the [Oslo Governance Centre](http://www.undp.org/governance/) of the *United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)*. See my [CV](d/ziaja_cv.pdf) for furter details. #### Contact Dr. Sebastian Ziaja Research Center for Distributional Conflict and Globalization and Max Weber Institute for Sociology Heidelberg University Bergheimer Str. 58 69115 Heidelberg Germany Email: ziajaRemoveMeX@uni-XYHideMeheidelberg.de Homepage: www.ziaja.xyz ***
